Sarah Amelia is 3!!!!! Wow – it seems like yesterday that she was a baby! How did time go so quickly! Bryan and I are convinced that she went from being a baby to a pre-schooler overnight! Her birthday was on a weekday, so we had some cake and treats after everyone had dinner.
Even though we had cake and ice cream on her actual birthday and sent cupcakes to her class at the daycare, I had to throw Sarah Amelia a “real” birthday party. Her birthday overlaps the start of rodeo season, so we thought it would be cute to have a rodeo-themed party. I was worried that it might not be girly enough, but I realized my 3-year old daughter wouldn’t know the difference. Bryan and I were ready for a little break in the princess action anyway…
Unfortunately, I lost a week in February. It’s hard to say how I lost track of the calendar. Maybe it was due to multiple rounds of sickness that passed from family member to family member, or my grant that was due, or the weather – who knows?!?!?! I knew that Sarah’s birthday was at the end of February, but I kept thinking that I had more time to plan. Fortunately, I was able to book a couple of ponies for the party. They were really cute – one was pink and the other purple. (Bryan told me that PETA would not be happy.) Most of the kids really liked the ponies. Sarah loved riding the ponies! She said the “purple” one was her favorite, but then she said the “pink” one was her favorite. A girl can change her mind 🙂 The festivities were rounded out with ballon art (by Rachel), stick horse races, pin-the-tail-on the donkey, piñata, and birthday cake. Overall, I think it was a fun time! Below is a video of Sarah riding a pony. The pony-handlers were impressed with Sarah’s balance and riding ability. They said she was a natural. Maybe lack of fear would be a better descriptive? I think she was having so much fun that she wasn’t afraid of the animals, which is really helpful. In the video you can hear one of the guys ask me if I rode horses. I replied “yes, but I am from Kentucky”. EVERYONE in Kentucky has ridden a pony/horse in his or her lifetime, so I am not sure if I am special in that regard, LOL!
Love the rodeo theme! The pictures are great!
thanks! it was a fun and a nice break from ballerinas and princesses!
