When I posted the “Everyday is Halloween” blog, I left out an entire thing about our little Halloween party. As I said in the other Halloween themed post, I love an excuse to eat candy and have fun. When I was a kid, I especially loved Halloween parties and always looked forward to having parties for my kids and their friends. The first party that I hosted (when Rachel was 3) was pretty small – about 4 or 5 little girls from the neighborhood. The following parties were much larger and more ambitious!
I was concerned that the party last year might mark the end of our fun. Most of our friends would laugh at the idea of me giving up and not doing something just because it seemed impossible, but the steady march into mid-life, along with having baby no.2 and everything else was really starting to challenge my “can do” attitude. Just when I was ready to secretly scrap this year’s festivities, Rachel started talking about making a “ghost zip-line” from the upstairs to the other side of the house… Ok, so I guess she didn’t get the memo regarding how overwhelmed mommy was at the present moment.
I was a little concerned about how everything would go, but overall, I think that it was fun. A lot of kids came and it was nice to meet a lot of new friends from her class at school (and their parents)! The kids were also treated to a hayride around the neighborhood by one of our awesome neighbors. He sets up a hayride every year for a local daycare Fall festival and offered to take our party kids around the block!
Here are a few shots of our party. Ok, so where’s mine and Bryan’s medal for throwing another Halloween party!
